Description

Our light switch and socket spacers are designed to solve two of the most common electrical fitting problems in UK homes:

  1. Fixing sunken or recessed sockets - When plastering, tiling, or redecorating makes your wall thicker, the faceplate can sit too far back. This spacer fits between the back box and faceplate, bringing it forward so it sits perfectly flush.
  2. Creating more space behind the faceplate - Modern slimline sockets and switches have less internal depth, making it harder to fit wiring neatly. Adding a spacer gives a few extra millimetres of clearance, making installation easier and safer.

Each socket extender plate is precisely 3D-printed for a snug, minimalist fit and available in thicknesses from 2mm to 20mm. You can also choose from 2mm rounded corners (standard) to 5mm radius to better match a faceplate with rounder corners.

Available Sizes & Uses

Thickness Common Uses
2mm–3mm Minor plaster or paint depth correction, tight slimline faceplates
4mm (Most Popular) Typical plaster or tile thickness, standard wall adjustment
5mm–10mm Tiled or uneven walls, shallow back boxes, or slimline upgrades
12mm–20mm Deep recesses, double tiling, or major back box extension

Custom sizes available on request.

FAQs

Can I use this for both sockets and light switches?
Yes - these spacers fit all UK standard light switches and plug sockets, and can be customised to unique sizes if needed.

How do I know which thickness I need?
Measure how far your socket is recessed behind the wall or tile. Choose the matching spacer thickness - 4mm is the most common.

Will this help with slimline faceplates?
Yes! Adding a 2mm–6mm spacer gives extra wiring clearance behind slimline fittings.

What does the corner radius mean?
The corner radius affects how rounded the corners are. 2mm radius matches most standard sockets, while 5mm radius is better for the curvier faceplates.

Do I need longer screws?
For thicker spacer plates, yes - choose screws longer than your spacer thickness to ensure a secure fit.

How to Fix or Adjust a Socket Using a Spacer

If your socket or light switch sits too far back after tiling, plastering, or repainting, simply use a socket spacer or back box extension plate to bring the fitting flush with the wall. It’s also ideal when upgrading to slimline sockets, giving you more space behind the faceplate to fit wires safely.

Our spacers are available in various thicknesses (2mm–20mm), so you can easily match the depth you need. Just fit the spacer between the wall box and faceplate - no need for messy filler or expensive electrical work.
